Top 10 Reasons to Use Prefilled Syringes
November 15, 2012
David Letterman’s top ten list has nothing on the top 10 reasons to switch from vials to syringes. The traditional paradigm involves filling into vials or ampoules, which is then filled by hand into a syringe to inject into a patient, but many drug manufacturers are filling drug product directly into syringes instead. So why are prefilled syringes becoming so popular, and why should you consider them if you are currently targeting your product to go into a vial? Well, here are our top 10 reasons to use a syringe:

Crystalomics®: A Formulation Technology to Improve Therapeutic Proteins

August 1, 2012
With over 300 recombinant proteins and antibodies currently approved in the US and Europe, in a biopharmaceutical market that can only be expected to grow, the need for drug developers to consider protein formulation and delivery technologies is more important than ever Althea's Tod Lauerman recently addressed this topic at the 2012 BIO Convention, speaking about Crystalomics® protein crystallization technology and the advantages it has to offer. Some of the major challenges of therapeutic proteins include their tendency to degrade quickly in the patient's body, and their associated need to be delivered at very high concentrations, often intravenously. Crystalomics® solves some of these stability and delivery challenges, making for an overall safer and more patient-friendly product.

March 18, 2013
In an industry where it is increasingly common for innovators to outsource parts of their drug development process, it is a little surprising that there is little discussion around where to outsource. Specifically, with the outsourcing model typically evoking thoughts of India or China, there is seldom any consideration given to the outsourcing options available locally.
